June 3rd, 2018

As this is our last blog post for the year, I want to take a moment to say thank you for joining the class on this wonderful journey of learning, growth, and collaboration. The children would not be where they are today without your support, guidance, and love. I wish you all the best as you move forward and I hope to see you all again soon!

Our week in PreK:
We had a fantastic last full week in the classroom as we began talking about upcoming transitions and enjoyed our time together as a community.

The children continued their exploration of identities through the creation of flags, including the flags of their countries.  They created many flags including the flags of Brazil, Greece, United States of America, Korea, Egypt, Sweden, Japan, and "family."

We also spent time creating costumes related to our favorite songs, "The Greatest Show," which includes some interesting characters.  It's great to see the children re-affirming their identities while trying out new roles- a very normal part of growing and changing as they prepare for summer and KG!

We also worked on cards with our fifth grade buddies remembering our favorite times together this year and thinking about best wishes for the future.  We will get to see them again during our class party on Monday, June 4th.

We had a special visit from one of our favorite guests, Mr. O, who played songs for us.  The children love his guitar playing and silly songs!

On Thursday we talked a lot about transitions as we congratulated the senior class who are moving on from CAC into college or jobs, and visited kindergarten classes to see what they are like and learn about kindergarten from the students there.  The class had a lot of fun in KG and they think it is "awesome!"

(it was "Wacky Hair Day" in Kindergarten!)

Parents' Corner:

In reflection on the parent surveys that were sent out earlier this year, I want to thank all of you for an overwhelmingly positive response to our year together.  I have also felt the engagement, learning, and growth in students (and teachers/families!) throughout the year and it is wonderful to see this reflected in parent responses. With seventeen parents responding, we have high levels of satisfaction on all questions in the survey.

There is always room for improvement and there were questions without 100% satisfaction rates. A few parents responded slightly lower on questions related to "I believe the curriculum meets my child’s needs," "My child is provided an academic program with an appropriate level of challenge and assistance as needed," "I am satisfied with the level of academic expectation of my child," and "If my child is excelling academically, appropriate extension and enrichment is available."  Parents, if any of you have suggestions or questions regarding these areas, please feel free to email Ms. Trillian.  My role is to support students and families at the PreK level and I wish to enrich and improve the program each year, but without your feedback it's hard to know what you think is missing.  Thanks as always for your honest communication, collaboration, and feedback!
